New Home Awards
These awards recognise excellence in building and workmanship and are open to all new homes built within the past two years. They are judged within the price brackets to the same judging criteria. Price brackets inclusive of GST for 2010 are:
• Department of Building and Housing New Homes under $250,000
• New Homes $250,000 - $350,000
• New Homes $350,000 - $450,000
• New Homes $450,000 - $600,000
• New Homes $600,000 - $1million
• New Homes $1million - $2million
• New Homes over $2million
In judging entries, judges will consider:
• Structure
• External cladding and roofing
• Weather proofing
• Selection insulation, innovation and suitability of products
• Finishing
• General workmanship
• Entry and access
• Fit to site
• Functionality and design
• Marketability
• Future protecting
Spec homes can now be entered If they are built for display or show home purposes and meet the show home criteria re hours open, they must be entered in the James Hardie Show Home category. If they are built truly on spec for a potential homeowner, they may now be entered in New Homes categories, provided they are accompanied by an independent QS assessment to validate their contract price.
Nulook Builder’s Own Home Award
This award is an award for a builder’s own home, including new homes and renovations built by a builder for his or herself or immediate family. This is not a price based category.
Judges will be looking for innovative use of building materials, and in particular quality workmanship and building skill. Immediate family, is in this instance, defined as the builders' parents, sibling or children.
This award is restricted to builder’s own homes
only. Homes built for siblings, children or parents can now be
entered in the relevant New Home category, provided they are
accompanied by an independent QS assessment to validate their
contract price.
James Hardie Show Home Award
This award is open to show homes and spec homes. Show homes and spec homes can be sold and leased back to the entrant but must be open to the public for a minimum of 20 days per month (and for at least four days per week) for a period of three months, and may or may not have been lived in at the time of entry.
If the show home or spec home is sold for residential purposes after the close of entry, it will remain in the James Hardie Show Home Category for the purpose of the competition.
Please note that if you have built a spec home that does not fit the above criteria please enter it in the applicable New Homes category.
Entrants in this award are not eligible for the PlaceMakers
Supreme Award.
PlaceMakers Renovation Awards
These awards are open to all renovations and restorations. Price brackets inclusive of GST for 2009 are:
• PlaceMakers Renovation Award up to $250,000
• PlaceMakers Renovation Award $250,000 - $500,000
• PlaceMakers Renovation Award over $500,000
In judging entries, judges will consider:
• Creation or retention of character
• Integration to existing home
• Workmanship
To note: 'bathroom-only' and 'kitchen-only' renovations may be entered. If you have done a small (or large) - but stunning bathroom or kitchen renovation - you should enter into the PlaceMakers Renovation Awards.
This year there is a new Supreme Award for Renovations. See below for more information.
Lifestyle Awards Special judging criteria apply to Lifestyle Awards including, general workmanship, innovation in product use, quality and suitability of materials, product assembly, application and installation, functionality of design and space, and future proofing.
All entrants in the residential award categories (including the James Hardie Show Homes) are automatically eligible for entry into the Lifestyle Awards. One house only wins each Lifestyle Award.
Gib Living® Award – for excellence in interiors
This award is given to the home that delivers a stunning interior living environment. Particular attention will be given to the quality of finish throughout.
Pink® Batts® Ultra® Energy Efficiency Award
This award will be given to the house that best demonstrates that energy efficiency was a significant consideration in the design process and was incorporated with regard to the lifestyle of the client and siting of the house.
PlaceMakers Heart of the Home Kitchen Award This award will be given to the house with a kitchen that best meets the lifestyle, family and entertaining needs of its owners.
PlaceMakers Bathroom Excellence Award This award will be given to the house with a bathroom that best meets the lifestyle and family needs of its owners.
NEW! Outdoor Living Award This award is given to the home that best integrates interior and outdoor living as a seamless expression of the home’s design and construction. The Sustainable Building Awards
These awards recognise design and functionality, through to choice of materials and their installation, as well as overall quality of workmanship. The awards reward fresh, environmentally thoughtful approaches to building and renovating homes. The categories are based on the value of the building project (new homes and renovations are eligible to enter) and are as follows:
- Sustainable Homes under $500,000
- Meridian Sustainable Homes $500,000- $1million
- Sustainable Homes over $1million
As all Sustainable Homes will be judged by the one national panel,
a full national judging fee will apply to all entries (whether primary or secondary). Please indicate on the entry form whether you are
entering Sustainable Homes as a primary or secondary entry. All sustainable home entries are eligible for the PlaceMakers Supreme Award, except those that are a Show Home or Builder’s Own Home. |
