RMB Commercial Project of the Year

All commercial entries are judged by one nationally appointed RMB Commercial Project Awards judging panel.

The commercial project judging panel is made up of two judges - one building specialist and one design specialist. They will visit each entry from April to July 2010.  Judges decisions are final.

All entries will be assessed using a predetermined scorecard. Judges score against industry standards in the judging categories. In judging entries, judges will consider:

  • Construction
  • Design
  • Contract management
  • Overall assessment

The awards are given out at local events from June to August and the Top 100 Gold Award winners in New Zealand (which include House of the Year and RMB Commercial Project entries) will proceed to the national competition.

All National Winners will be announced at the National Gala event held in November 2010.

A copy of the 2010 judging criteria and score sheets will be avaliable on 19 April.

Commercial Project Award Categories

The Commercial Project Awards have been developed to cover the full spectrum of work undertaken by commercial members.

They are structured into five categories in order to better reflect the type of work being undertaken by members of Registered Master Builders that undertake commercial projects.

Retail and Business Project

This category is open to projects with a retail, business or office function that have been built, renovated or restored within the past two years.  These could include (but are not limited to) a supermarket, shopping centre/mall, inner city revitalisation project, office block, commercial fitout, call centre etc.

Health Project

This category is open to all projects which provide a health or wellbeing role in the community and could include hospitals, vet clinics, resthomes, general practitioners offices, community health facilities and specialist clinics etc.

Education Project

This category includes all educational institutions from preschool, to primary, secondary, tertiary and private facilities.  Any construction undertaken within the boundary of an educational institution will be included in this category from the library to the university gymnasium.

Industrial and Infrastructure Project

This category includes projects with a manufacturing, industrial or utility function – whether public or private - and could include projects such as a warehouse, prison, distribution outlet, storage facility, factory, manufacturing facility, municipal service, bridge etc.

Tourism and Leisure Project Award

This category is open to projects which are designed for use by the public for recreation and leisure - from managed apartments, hotels, sporting facilities, motels, libraries, casinos, aquatic centres, entertainment facilities etc.

RMB Commercial Project of the Year

The RMB Commercial Project of the Year will be awarded to the most outstanding entry in the RMB 2010 Commercial Project Awards.
